Jemo House
Providing a home & a family
Who We Are
Jemo House is a safe haven for 34 children who have lost their parents or were abandoned due to HIV/AIDS. We ensure they receive the care, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Jemo House's story began in 2010 during Too Little Children Founder and CEO, Jessica's, second trip to Kenya. She encountered six children and a house mother living in appalling conditions at a local orphanage. They lacked reliable shelter, food, and clean water, and were being denied an education due to the orphanage's misappropriation of funds. When collaboration with local management failed to improve the children's situation, Jessica decisively relocated them and their mother to a safe, new home. To further its mission, Too Little Children, founded in 2013, purchased land to build Jemo House, ensuring enough accommodation for a growing family.
We Provide
Safe Shelter
Every child deserves a secure and comfortable home environment, with all the love and support they need to thrive.
Nourishing Meals
Jemo House provides balanced meals that meet a growing child’s nutritional needs. The children and house mothers maintain a shamba, or garden, with kale, sweet potatoes, maize, beans, and carrots, buying additional supplies from local farmers.
Quality Education
Education is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty by providing a path to a purposeful, lifelong career. Beyond academics, it's also a powerful tool for fostering healthy habits, emotional healing, and resilience. It provides structure and purpose, which fosters a sense of belonging and self-worth, helping the children cope with past trauma.
Healthcare
Regular medical check-ups and treatment to maintain good health. Jemo House children and staff are covered under the national health insurance, which gives them immediate access to necessary medications, treatment, and preventive care. The cost of healthcare can be a significant financial burden to families in poverty, which is why only 25% of Kenyans have health insurance.
Emotional Support
We provide counseling and supportive resources to address the children's emotional and developmental needs. When local services are unavailable in Kenya, we source specialists from our global team.
These services are vital and are made possible through our generous donors. Your support can make a significant difference.
